My weekend diary - Part 2: Saturday
Saturday

8:00a.m

The alarm goes off hitting me with the horrible reality that it’s time to get up, as I need to get home so I can shower, change and get down to Stanford airport to catch a flight to Ireland. The world is a horrible cold place @ 8a.m.

8:57a.m

Stepping outside, the weather is so insane right now that the rain is going sideways…a t-shirt was the wrong choice.

10:26a.m

Chances of me getting a nap disappear when I realise Mike appears to be ‘struggling’ behind the wheel. I have to stay awake now to ensure we don’t end up flying off a bridge or have some similar horrible accident occurring.

1:46p.m

I get home, the puppy seems happy to see me; he’s even giving me a little smile! No time for animal affection though, I’ve got a plane to catch. Shower, change of clothes, burn some new tracks I was sent over night and it’s out the door with a turn around of 20 minutes…onwards!

2:20p.m

Although I don’t drive often, when I do I like to take my C.D wallet from my record bag and listen to tracks to try and work out mixes out in my head.

4:03p.m

Arrive at the airport, head to check in…the long queue looks to cause a problem til I spot Anne Savage, who I’m playing in Ireland with later that night, quite near the front. I innocently join her mid-line and try to ignore the death stares of the 100 people behind me, I’m sure they’d do the same if they could.

While in line Anne and I chat about everything and anything, and I realise; out of all the DJs I’ve met in my career she is by far the most down to earth and caring one, a genuine person who has time for everyone.

6:25p.m

We board, I start to try and work out how much of my life I spend in cars or planes, too long is all I can get!

7:40p.m

Arriving in Ireland, we meet the driver and he takes us to the hotel. I spend every weekend in hotel rooms but this one has something new; buttons to open the curtains and front door whilst lying in bed, surreal.

9:32p.m

The driver arrives to take us to our gig. Ireland is a bit different to most gigs, so we have to drive nearly 2 hrs to the venue.

10:40p.m

Does the Irish driver keep calling me and Anne ‘lads’ when offering us cigarettes?

11:08p.m

It doesn’t matter how little sleep I’ve had, or what time of night/morning it is; the second I walk in the club the adrenaline always kicks things up a notch.

People always ask me if I get nervous before I play and I always answer the same thing; no. The only feelings I get are excitement and how I wish the DJ before me would hurry up and finish!

12:00a.m

Anne is, to be frank, rocking it! Dropping her new track ‘Stabs’n’tings’ I secretly say to myself ‘damn her…wish I’d played this track’.

12:45a.m

A bit of set-time mix up, but I’m on the decks and the room is packed. First tune has to be the new bounce remix of Showtek’s ‘FTS’ and as expected it absolutely smashes the dancefloor.

2:02a.m

Most clubs shut @ 2 in Ireland so it’s an early night for me! After the set there’s a huge crowd of people at the side of the stage to have photos with, which is always flattering! While giving CDs out and signing various body parts my manager Roman tells me the car is ready outside so it’s time to head back to the hotel!

4:00a.m

It doesn’t matter what time it is, there’s always room for a Burger King, even @ 4a.m. Me and Roman go for Whoppers, Anne declines politely, a wise choice by the Savage one.

5:39a.m

Even at 20 to 6 in the morning, hotels have things going on…as I pop downstairs to go outside for a cigarette a large crowd of drunk Irishmen stumble past me singing, looking like they’re having the best night of their entire lives.
