Slinky Interviews Tylor Leigh ahead of Slinky vs Goodgreef, Friday 2nd march 2007.
Tylor Leigh is unarguably the hottest thing in Trance music at the moment, topping charts and dominating the dance floors of clubs across the globe!! Having recently been announced as an official resident for the Godskitchen World tour over the summer, tipped by Mixmag as the best thing of 2006 and having support from some of the scene’s biggest players we thought it about time we get her down to sunny Bournemouth to give our ones and twos a good beating!!

We caught up with the first lady of trance ahead of her debut in Bournemouth for Slinky vs Goodgreef to talk Slinky, Goodgreef and all things Tylor!!!

Tylor doing her thang!!

So Tylor… first things first, how are you?

Im very well thank you! And yourself??

Wicked thanks – looking forward to Friday!! Now what with the jam-packed diary and jet setting life style, you have not yet had a chance to grace the decks of Slinky, but March the 2nd holds your debut for us… excited??

Very!! Well, I don’t want to blow your trumpet too much, lol, but Slinky’s a fantastic event, which has held some amazing parties, and as an up and coming DJ, its definitely up there on the lists of club nights to play.

Blow away... we love our trumpet being blown!!
You’re one the few females to break through onto the ever more demanding trance scene, what would you say your secret is??

Hopefully my music has done the talking. The Trance scene is very healthy at the moment and has opened itself up to so many new genres and sounds such as house and electro. Dj’s can be so much more experimental with their music and this has generated so many new directions for the genre, and I like to incorporate this new direction in my sets.

Is ‘the first lady of trance’ a hard title to live up to?

To be honest, that’s not a title I try to live up to. I just see myself an artist who’s passionate about what they do and who wants to play the music they love to the people who love just as much.

What’s been your favourite gig to date and why??

That’s so hard to answer! I’ve been really lucky to play some of the best clubs in the world so early on in my career. I’ve been heavily involved with Eddies Fire It Up tour, which has been amazing. Godskitchen was up there for me, it’s a top club and it was a real honour to play there. Also the almighty Cream in Amnesia was unbelievable. Cream at Nation in my hometown was special too as that’s where my passion for music began.

The scene has been a bit flat for new talent for some time now but as of late there seems to be a lot more breaking through, you’ve been tipped by some of the biggest names in trance as a force to be reckoned with but who do you tip as one to watch out for in the future?

There are lots of new djs and producers breaking into the scene who are keeping things fresh and new. John O’callaghan is leading the way for Trance whilst I think Sander Van Doorn has had such a positive influence in regards to bringing in new sounds and ideas.

If you could spend a day at the zoo with any DJ, who would you pick and why?

Probably Carl Cox! He’s an absolute legend, and when I first went to his night at Space he blew me away. His energy and control are in a class of their own! I reckon it would go right off in the zoo with Coxy there!

You’ve been with Goodgreef for quite some time now…how do you find working with Barry Big Nose? Is it everything it’s cracked up to be??

Hard graft!!! Ha! No only joking! I’m really lucky to be part of Goodgreef. They’re a wicked team who all know how to do a hard days work and a hard nights partying!!

Do you have any plans or goals for 2007… anything exciting coming up? Go on… plug yourself!!!

I’ve just been announced as an official Godskitchen resident for their world tour over the summer, which I’m really excited about!! It’s to be held in various destinations which haven’t been confirmed yet, but I really cant wait!!

I’m also really looking forward to playing back at clubs such as Lush, and hopefully I’ll be making an appearance on the white isle again, so watch this space!

Tell us something that not many people know….

A spider’s silk is that strong, that if it was the thickness of a pencil, it would stop a jumbo jet at full speed... How random!!

(I'm actually amazed by that fact!! - Slinky HQ)

If you were a goat, what colour trousers would you wear and why?

Green I think. Not sure why but I think they’d look quite smart!

What are your all time top 5 tunes? They can be any style!!

All time?? I could be here forever!! lol! I’ll give you some variation..

Chicane – Autumn Tactics is a classic.
Coca and Villa – La Noche – Quality track on the Roger Sanchez CD
Snow Patrol – Your All I have– Top band
Gabriel Ananda- Doplewhipper-Just about sums up Ibiza last year
Thick Dick – Insatiable – Quality track in its day

…I could be here all day!!

Where do you hope to be in 5 years time?

A fully-fledged DJ working the decks around the globe!

Well… I think the Slinky grilling is just about coming to a close but before we let you go I think a quick fire is in order:

Daddy or chips?

Chips

Slinky or Goodgreef?

Goodgreef..It’s more than my jobs worth!! lol!

After party or bed?

After party normally... but I’m trying my best to be more sensible at the moment!

Favourite feature?

My personality of course! Lol!

Red or white?

Red

Looks or personality?

Personality

Comfort or fashion?

A girl needs a bit of both!

Cheers Tylor - Crackin Lass!!

Indeed this will not be her debut as she has played before. Although that was a warm up set @ The Opera House. Altho Im assuming she will play more peak time on friday so in theory it will be a debut peak time set.

Great looking young lady, very nice aswell.

She was a dancer @ Eden in Ibiza.
Randomly when she was last down she recognised me from Ibiza in 2002 when we were working out there.
Even more random we both lived in the same apparment block.
Looking back on photo's my friend has of her I do recall her face aswell

But anyway - Her warm up set @ Slinky last year was very good so im very much intrested to see what she dishes out on friday.
