On Saturday 13th October 2007, Electroquisite returns to the subterranean surrounds of Timbuk2 and celebrates it's 2nd anniversary in style with the penultimate instalment of the 2007 'Neon Series'....
... and what a night this is set to be!!!
For this unprecedented landmark occassion it gives us immense pleasure in welcoming not just one, but TWO premier headline acts, both of whom are currently considered amongst the house music industry's most highly rated figures...
RENE AMESZ (Extrema Music)
and
SERGE SANTIAGO (We Love.../Stompa Phunk)
Having asked each of our guest DJ's over the last 12 months the same question... "Who's the main man in terms of the production", there's one name that's been mentioned time & time again....
... Rene Amesz
Biography
Few people could be said to have displayed the disciplined approach to producing that Rene Amesz has over the last ten years. Throughout this time, a steady stream of unique, dirty sounding tracks have been destroying speakers all over the world, but it is now that Rene would seem to be coming into its own at the opportune time.
Rene’s first success as a producer came when he started producing records for Mid-Town under various monikers. That’s what really started his hunger for his own sound; all based on phat beats, sick grooves and a unique approach towards arrangements and sounds.
Before long, he teamed up with Peter Gelderblom who already had made a name for himself as a club and shop owner, as well as a DJ/producer in his hometown of Rotterdam. Together they formed a hugely successful production duo and have been responsible for tracks such as ‘Strike Me Down’, ‘You Make Me Climb The Wall’ on Sander Kleinenberg’s Little Mountain Recordings and more recently the massive 'Snap', as well remixes for the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Tom Stephan, D. Ramirez, Mark Knight, plus the simply awesome reworkings of DJ Jeroenski's 'My Mind Is Twisted' and the Faithless classic 'Insomnia'.
In 2004, Rene came to the attention of Extrema Music who were immediately taken by his determination and approach, and the first releases showcasing his new sound, including 'Courisha' and the breathtaking 'I Like Sex', shortly followed. On the back of these and the numerous other acclaimed productions & remixes that Rene could put his name to, people were forced to sit up and take notice.
From then onwards Rene’s career has taken a sharp turn upwards and forwards, with releases on various labels including Toolroom, La Factoria, Stereo, Extrema, DK and Deep Records, as well as remixes for Nic Fanciulli, Jamie Anderson, Muzzaik, Lexicon Avenue and Mark Knight...
What's more, with a gig diary encompassing some of the globe's most desirable venues & clubnights, and a 2007 Summer residency at Roger Sanchez's acclaimed 'Release Yourself' night at the legendary Pacha in Ibiza, Rene's reputation as one of the World's most takled about in demand artists & DJ's today is undeniably well deserved....
Joining Rene at the head of the bill is a DJ/Production artist considered amongst the elite of the current house music insdustry.... formerly one half of much respected production duo 'Radio Slave', long-term resident of the awesome Brighton based night 'Stompa Phunk', and 2007 main man at the legendary Ibizan institution that is the awesome 'We Love Sundays' event at Space, we welcome....
... Serge Santiago
Biography
Who: Serge Santiago. Producer, DJ , Remixer....
Serge Santiago on Italo: “I mean, the shit they did in those days blows me away at times. It's a different kind of energy, makes you dance in a different way.”
Brighton boy, but now Hackney (London) resident, Serge Santiago is particularly known for his cheeky coloured vinyl re-edits of classic Italo/Disco tracks... tracks including Kano ‘It’s a War’ on green vinyl and Grace Jones ‘Slave to The Rhythm’ on red. In 2005 after splitting from Radio Slave, the remix/DJ duo he was part of for two years, Santiago started his own label ‘Arcobaleno’ (meaning ‘rainbow’ in Italian). Santiago’s own ‘Atto D’amore’ was the label’s first release and one which gained huge support from the likes of Trevor Jackson, Damian Lazarus and the DFA crew.
In 2006, Santiago played in Ibiza for the first time on the infamous Space Terrace for 'We Love'. The reaction to his performance was so significant that this summer he was installed as resident for the 'We Love' events, and alongside fellow resident Riton became the first DJ to mix their first ever compilation CD… Here’s the history…
Serge Santiago on producing: “I first started producing because I was clubbing so much and wanted some involvement. So, using my old computer, I started to teach myself how to write beats. From there I must’ve written about 50 to 100 half tracks before I actually finished one!!! That was a track called ‘Push it’ (using a sample from the Salt n’Peppa track). It’s funny, listening back now I can hear myself learning within the track; it’s great! Anyway, we decided it was a classic ‘Stompa Phunk’ sounding record so ‘Push it’ was released in 1999 on Stompa Phunk.
After releasing ‘Push It’ in 1999, Santiago started DJing also… On DJing: “DJing was the natural progression from producing; I made music so I wanted to play it out, and that’s why I became resident of Stompa Phunk. I partied there, I produced for them and so it was logically the next step. At first I started playing disco in local pubs in Brighton. It wasn't a case of me seeing a famous DJ and going 'Wow... I wanna copy him'. I was on the dole and needed a job... something that didn’t involve working in Co-op or Boots! I’ve never been a follower. I like to do things my way and work things out I my own time.
Through being resident for Stompa Phunk’s Brighton based club-night, Santiago’s reputation spread and he began being booked throughout the rest of Europe, whilst still producing and releasing tracks including ‘Impendence’ and ‘Come On’ on the Stompa Phunk imprint. In 2003 he hooked up with Matt Edwards and formed Radio Slave. The duo fast became sought after re-touchers, responsible for re-editing Kylie, the White Stripes and Justin Timberlake amongst others.
After over 15 edits under the Radio Slave moniker, the duo split in 2005 and Santiago started his coloured edit series – the first being 'Advance - Take me to the Top’ and ‘My Mine - Hypnotic Tango’ (Pink releases). He also formed his label 'Arcobaleno' to house his own productions.
Now, Santiago regularly plays throughout London, Europe, Australia and more, and with his residency on the Terrazza at 'We Love', plus the release of their first compilation, his ever increasing profile is set to reach new boundaries.... Santiago on We Love: “Well, I've got to represent the Terrace! To capture all those years of great music without sounding dated, and also to deliver something that you'll still pick up in ten years time and still listen to... I'm gonna tear the terrace apart!”
Joining these two outstanding artists in the Main Room will be Electroquisite residents LUKE LANGSON, ALEX CLARK and the huge UK electro-house production phenomenon that is WILL BAILEY (Toolroom/Data). With over 30 years DJ'ing experience between them, it's fair to say that these are three of Bristol's most experienced residents who thrive on the big occassions such as this... and this night promises to be no different!!!
The 2nd room will be treated to performances by all EQ Room 2 residents, consisting of CLINTON BROWN (who's own name as a producer has achieved immediate success following the debut release of his & fellow artist Adam Shaw's track 'Screamo' being signed by none other than 'Club Class', and even gaining national airplay on MTV Dance as part of their coverage at Creamfields!), NATHAN THOMSON, TOM & RICH BROWN, ANDY KELLY, TOM BRUTON, JAMES LEWIS & DAVE CARTER.
This event is practically guaranted to be off the scale... undoubtably the biggest EQ event to date. I mea, it's hardly a common occurance to see just one major artist playing such an intimate gig at a venue that hlds just 350 people... BUT TWO?!?!! Well, that's pretty much unheard of!!!
This will be unparalelled... Rene Amesz, undoubtably the choice of his fellow artists, making a rare UK performance and his Bristol debut, alongside Serge Santiago, main man for one of the World's most famous nights 'We Love', at one of the World's most famous clubs 'Space'... together... here, in Bristol, for the Electroquisite 2nd Birthday....
