Quickfire interview with Prehab guests Lucy Arrowsmith and Rob Read

First up we have Lucy Arrowsmith

Presenter, Journalist, Personal Trainer, Promoter and DJ, sounds like you've got your fingers in plenty of pies. Tell us a little more about yourself.

I'm a personal trainer by day.
My love is music and anything to do with it.
I also present a music shoow for tiscali broadband which involves interviewing established and up and coming acts, from amy winehouse to maxi jazz. and just recently interviewed judge jules, goldie, ed simons and tim westwood for mixmags 25th birthday.

How did you get into the DJ scene?

I started djing after a trip to the white island a few yrs back. Was meant to be just a hobby but I'm too competitive to leave at just that.
Mr mark Doyle gave me my first break which i'm for ever thankful to him for.

What DJs and Producers out there are you rating right now.

My music tastes keep changing and i'm loving the raw techy house sounds right now, but it still as to have soul!
I'm loving Deadmau5...sorry, like most people. I think producer Matt Samuels is someone to look out for, just signed to Toolroom.

As this will be your Prehab debut what can the Prehab regulars expect to here?

Very much looking forward to playing with prehab, i hope my music taste will fit right in and everyone will enjoy a magical mistry tour of techy progressive sounds.

Next up we have Rob Read

You were an attendee of the very first Prehab event almost four years ago and been a regular since then, also playing for us at he infamous Southside Bar and the legendary Turnmills. How would you say Prehab has changed in that time?

Has it really almost been 4 years?! Those hazy saturday afternoon Stella sessions seem like only a couple of years ago. Prehab has changed massively over these 4 years, moving from such a small bar venue on a saturday daytime to friday night events for the Gallery. Really one could say that Prehab really has reached the big time and it couldn't have happened to a better bunch of guys.

Lets hope that in time the night moves onto bigger venues and who know, maybe some main room action from the Prehab residents.

How have your own musical tastes changed since then?
Most definately. With techno seemingly coming into fashion for most of the big guns there is a strong influence on DJ's building sets into that screeming last track belter mode. This is all very well but it has to be pulled off pretty much flawlessly. Armed with some tough tech house i'm i'm not going to try and be the next Digweed, i'm going to let the tunes do the talking.

You list John Digweed, Sasha and Dave Seaman as your favourite DJs, is their anyone out there at the moment close to breaking into your top three or any up and coming DJs you'd recommend?

Guy J who recently released 'Under Pressure' on Bedrock is going to be one to watch this year. With a solo production album on the way this year its going to be interesting to see what he can pull out. If its anything like under pressure then we are in for something quite special. Although his DJ'ing techniques are yet to be sampled. Robert Babicz also deserves a mention, plenty of good productions and sets are coming from this guy.

But from the more established crowd i can see Lee Burridge making a strong appearance on the DJ'ing scene this year. Someone that has always got gigs overseas but has been missing a couple of UK dates as of late. After his balance 13 release last year (quite possibly my favourite for the year) im hoping one of the London clubs will get him booked for some sort of 8 hour marathon..

What labels are doing it for you at the moment?

Dirt Crew records to whom Tigerskin are favouring for their new releases is ticking all the boxes for me at the moment. Loads of variety and their last few releases have been wicked. Along with obvious favourites such as Get Physical, Cocoon and Bedrock, all to which are still going strong.

What can the Ministry crowd expect to hear from you in the Prehab room?

Not to give it all away but plenty of tracks along the lines of "Adam Beyer and Agaric - California Gold" and "Thomas Schumacher - Pink Boots"
