Epidemik shows us how its done...

Sometimes you go out and the music just doesn’t cut it. Sometimes you go out and the entire crowd seems to turn up in a bad mood. Sometimes you go out and everything seems perfect, but you’re still missing that vital party vibe that makes it all sink so effortlessly into place. And sometimes, just sometimes, you’re lucky enough to forget all of that. Because tonight, tonight… You’re going to an Epidemik party…

Epidemik are the UK’s hottest up-and-coming Hardcore promotions label. Don’t be fooled however – they’re a bunch of ravers who’re far more interested in producing a fast beat than making a fast buck. Epidemik knows what makes a party rock and they seem to have their hands on that most elusive of dance scene qualities – an awesome party that you simply can’t fault.

You knew from the moment you stepped foot in the queue for the Ministry that this night was going to be special. The speakers on the courtyard blasted out the sound of a Prodigy inspired breakbeat lash of “The Jilted Generation”. As you get nearer the door you can see the smiles and wide eyed glances of anticipation tattooed on the faces of all the expectant clubbers hungry to get in. You get thru the gates and into the foyer, you’re almost there. You can almost taste the electric energy coming from behind the doors – and you’re like a little kid at Christmas. You don’t know exactly what’s underneath that wrapping paper, but you sure think it’s going to be good, and you can’t wait to rip it down and find out what’s behind…

Finally you’re into the Ministry of Sound. If you’ve never been but seen the film, Human Traffic, then this is THAT club. The first room is my favourite room of the entire set up. The dance floor split in two by the DJ booth in the middle, with a small riser off to the side supporting enough space for two or three barely clad cyber girls and a bongo set up. Old school hardcore and house are the order of the night in the bar, with such acts as Jason J, Brandon Block, Alex P and Steve Jackson really pulling some classics out of the record box to remind you of nights you’d thought you’d forgotten… The whole thing is helped along very nicely with some of my favourite MC’s – the hugely talented Lyrical Groover alongside the very exciting up and coming sensation MC Wicked to name but a few.

Exploring further into the club you get to the main room, the beating heart of the Epidemik monster. This room is a pulsing, throbbing mess of glow sticks, high-vis, fluffies and smiles, with the dance floor being full of hugs and handshakes from strangers as everyone finally let’s go after a short week of work. Of course, all the usual faces are playing in here, your Slipmatt, Rat-Pack, Demolition Cru, Billy Bunter and SS – to name but a few of the classic DJs and Pas here tonight. The fact that you can see so many high quality icons of the harder scene altogether at one night is a representation of how serious Epidemik are about creating truly great parties. The MC’s and the stage dance spectacular all works together like a well oiled slam machine – So often you go into the larger room and there’s a sense of something out of control, a little bit dangerous and a little bit exciting – you don’t know what that thing is, or where that feeling takes you, but tonight, it’s here at Epidemik.

There is an even harder room for the real lunacy tucked round the corner from the front bar. This is a crazy shoebox of neon electricity they’ve called the Baby box for the night. It’s crammed full of cyber kids jump styling and shuffling to the hardest sounding room of the night. Just like everywhere else you’ll find the happy vibe and smiling people that by know you’re feeling must surely characterise an Epidemik night out and let’s face it –you wouldn’t be far wrong. The music in here is from Vibes, Sc@r and Mixman amongst many, many others – So whatever your taste is on the scene, or should you want to mix it up between old piano styles and new bounce beats there’s a little bit of everything for you here at the party tonight.

Finally, there’s the Lounge, upstairs at the back of the club, for those who can no longer take the pace but don’t quite fancy trawling outside all the way to the really well put together smoking area (other clubs could learn so much from the way the MoS does it!) Up here you’ve got some light drum and bass style action with a few darker beats. Vinyl Vera, Shotz and Swifty-B amongst others set the cool pace and tone in this room which is a nice contrast to all the others. It’s not that this room wasn’t good; in fact it was great – because it gave you that lovely alternative alongside all the pumping hype and crazy business that was this masterpiece of a night.

Now, I’ve been a raver for over 17 years now and many nights you can go to are very much more miss than hit. When I find something that’s as good as Epidemik, it makes it very simple for me to decide where to go when they’ve got a night on – because now I know how good a party Grant-Epidemik and his boys can put on, I don’t want to go anywhere else. So now I know what you must be thinking, “where can I go to try out this party – where everyone smiles and every tune is a belter?” – Well, you’re in luck – the next night is just over a month away, so you’ve got plenty of time to plan exactly how you’re going to get there, after all you wouldn’t want to miss out on anything this good…

Next Epidemik Event is in Cambridge, please see below for details, I'll be there, so come on, don't miss out...

I think every event should do this.

Epidemik certainly have a unpresedented reputation if I didnt have other plans I would be going up to Cambridge. ('',)

You really captured the spirit, Jack.

I had such an amazing night, especially this one moment, when we were at the front of the main room and they were playing "Breathe", with everyone shouting along. It was so powerful, I'm so glad I was there.

Gutted I can't come to Cambridge...
