SATURDAY 15-12-06

RETRO (newport)

MATT REYNOLD (9pm - 10.30pm)

KRYS KROS (10.30pm - 12)

MOGZ-E (12 - 1.30am)

ABYSS (1.30am - 3am)

It's saturday, heeeharrrr, We all look forward to the weekends, I do my usual thing i phone around to see who is coming out and who aint, Eventually i am ready to hit the road and make my way around my town and pick up those that are going to RETRO, After picking them all up we make our way towards Newport, But 1st, it's a quick stop in the garage to stock up on the usual fags, gum, and diesel, Off again on the road towards our destination, But once again we stop at asda to stock up on beer for our little get together after RETRO has finished, Back in the van and off on the A4232 at the end of that it's a right turn then onto the M4 heading eastbound, As always the tunes are pumping, and as usual everyone is shouting not talking because ABYSS can-not leave the volume alone, But fair to ABYSS he always puts top tunes on for the journey to the places we go, He always takes over control of MY STEREO in MY van, but i dont mind, He knows the rules, the volume has got to be no-more than 20, but as usual he has to have it on 22, Grrrrrrrr, By this time we are making our way down the M4 towards our destination and coming up fast are the Bryn Glas tunnels, Junction 26 and it is off here that we turn, i take a right and head towards Newport town centre, past the stupidly placed speed camera, a bit further along and i observe the most traffic cones i have ever seen on a road in my life, I am heading towards the train station by this time, and on the opposite side of the road is where RETRO nightspot is, I can see that Newport is very busy by this time, clubbers are out in force, and there are loads of the boys in blue keeping a watchfull eye on them all, I announce to my budz in the van, ass's out, we are there, quicker that a shotgun they are all out and in through the doors to the club, Oi lock the doors !!, i shout, But they were gone, I park up and unusually there is a parking spot right opposite the venue, So there aint far to walk, I do my usual thing, I do my checklist of items i have to take into RETRO, pen, notepad, camera and charger, phone, and spotting cards, The van is locked and off i go across the road to RETRO.

Now i am inside the club, There are a few familar faces in here, and few not so familiar, my camera is out and i am taking pics, I say hi to everyone as i am making my way around the place, and on the decks i can see that it is someone i have not seen play on the decks, I make way to the decks to investigate, and it is MATT REYNOLDS (9pm-10.30pm), and he is playing some great hard-dance tracks, as it happens we were late arriving tonight and i did not manage to catch all of this warm-up set, I find someone who has been here since it opened at 9pm, I find LISA and ask her how the 1st dj played (matt reynolds), LISA informs me that he played a wicked trancey/hardtrance set, to which RICH T agrees with aswell, As i normally have a tracklist off each DJ i forgot to get 1 off MATT REYNOLDS, but RICH T says he will get 1 for me ASAP, At this time the visuals on the screens are looking brilliant, they were like an arcade game, but more of that later, MATT REYNOLDS brought ICE the other 1/2 of FATTMAN & ICE, for moral support, From what i heard of MATT REYNOLDS he played a good set, being that it was his 1st time playing at RETRO he done a mighty fine job, He played a stomping set and impressed the clubbers here, an excellent warm-up set performed by MATT REYNOLDS, Then as always it was 10.30 and it was time for him to give up the decks and be on his way to wherever he was going, Vinyl bag packed headphones away, and that was it, gone into the night he was,

The next DJ to play started promptly at 10.30, and it was no other than KRYS KROS, the youngest of tonights players, He starts off his set with a banging tune, and continues playing loads more top vinyl for us all, the floor aswell as the club is getting a bit more wound up, everyone is dancing, and enjoying themselves, KRYS never fails to get everyone going with the vinyl he spins, An excellent choice of vinyl he has selected to play tonight, The visuals are immense and there is even a laser for tonights presentation of HARD-DANCE, A few tunes KRYS played amongst his set were: 2 tracks by MARCEL WOODS ~ accelerate and a remix of advanced by (bits crushed) another mighty tune KRYS played was SCOT PROJECT ~ (promo), also ABEL RAMOS ~ atasco, and a track that is heard in just about every club i go to and that is FRED BAKER ~ luna eclipse, (tune), KRYS played a TECH TRANCE set for us, and i liked it, as did the rest of the clubbers in here, it was rapidly approaching 12 o'clock KRYS played out with another banging tune to get everyone in the mood for the (lets say not the youngest dj) tonight, hahaha (only joking) KRYS has packed his gear away and it is now time for ........schranzman MOGZ-E, lets av it BIGTIME,

MOGZ-E is doing a bit of Mc'in tonight aswell, spinning vinyl and on the mic, thats what he likes, getting everyone going that bit faster, he up's the pace a bit, the club was going that bit nuttier (as they do) because MOGZ-E is playing some rockhard tunes, i look at the video screens and what do i see, it's MOGZ-E, images are being relayed via a camera that was placed ontop of the perspex that surrounds the DJ booth, The people here are having a wicked time, They want hard and they are getting it from MOGZ-E, The set he played tonight was a great set, great tunes, which were DAVE 202 ~ Vulcania (silicon records), He also played a track that is on his own compilation CD (evolution anthems) and what an amazing track it is, it is called: hahahaha ~ SM F, a brilliant tune it is (banging) also played by MOGZ-E was SLIDEOUT ~ bloody pimp, and GVA - Freddy got Fingered, and HT UK 13 - remix 1, SM F - ping pong, again time has caught up with us and its nearly 1am, and again he is off the decks and straight to the bar for some liquid refreshment, he did not pack his bag at this time, he left it for a while, and got on the dancefloor accompanied by his pint of strong beer, and danced around as he always does when he is finished on the decks, MOGZ-E stayed there until the end of the night, and his replacement on the decks was the maestro himself..HARDTRANCE is his game....
Its ABYSS, playing HARDTRANCE for the closing set of tonight, He starts ontime at 1.30, The music is awesome and everyone shows they love it, I take a few more pics of tonights happenings, Some more great visuals to watch while the music is thumping through the speakers, i make my way around once again, and there is a few people who have got the freebies on that the WKD reps gave out earlier in the night, Some funny sites in there tonight, ABYSS was throwing the vinyl on the decks and the tunes were amazing, ABYSS has always been a crowd pleaser because he plays the right tunes at the appropriate time, as this is the end of the night set the tunes should be that bit more stomping but still a bit trancey, Tunes ABYSS spun were hard as, a top mixer, The cdj's were working hard and the decks were working even harder, The tunes he played were GEKKO ~ remember the dark (or is it day), a hard tune by PHILIPPE ROCHARD ~ music machine (etx records), TOM LA ROCHE ~ the number of the beast (etx records), followed by SIGNUM feat SCOT MAC ~ coming on strong (S.H.O.K.K mix), after this was LIQUID SUN ~ the begining, an awesome track this is, And last but not least ABYSS played AROME ~ hands up, again our time is up it is approaching 3am eternal, the lights are switched on and brighten up the place, so we know that is the sign that ABYSS has to wrap up his set and gather his vinyl and get the heck out of there, Then i was looking forward to the mad journey home,
The visuals were provided by RICH T~VJ, he put on a tidy show tonight for us, he worked hard on his laptop, The laser he provided was wicked aswell, just what the place needed, lasers and visuals, they make the place that bit better, i did ask RICH T what the program was that he used, but i forgot what it was called, but no doubt i will find out by the next-time we see him in RETRO, RICH T does not just provide lights and lasers and visuals, he also can provide technical support for those who need it, he was needed on a few occasions to sort out the decks,
It was good to see all you tonight, COURGGSEY (dancer + glowsticks) all the CWMBRAN crew, the NEWPORT locals, the RISCA crew, CARDIFF peeps, and the rest of you who were there tonight, so see you at the next event,
